Our Vision

We seek to help those with disabilities reach their full potential. By focusing on strengths, recognizing individuality, and incorporating preferences we are able to make each music therapy experience enjoyable for the participant. Here are ways in which we can help:

Autism

In music therapy we can address social skills, sensory needs, behavior management, communication, emotional processing, and cognitive skills. Many on the spectrum respond to the natural structured elements found in music.

Cerebral Palsy

We can work on fine and gross motor movement, motor planning, speech and communication, and cognitive skills. Our adaptable instruments and therapeutic experiences make music experiences accessible for those with CP.

Dementia

Many individuals with dementia will recall song lyrics even when other functions have left them. This promotes reminiscence and evokes participation. We can also capitalize on the social element of music making and help foster connections with others. Additionally, we can work on movement with music.

Developmental Disabilities

Through music experiences, we can work on cognitive and academic skills, speech and communication, and foster social connections. Many times, the enjoyment of music can help someone get the repetition they need to learn a concept or skill in a naturally motivating way.

Learning Disabilities

With music, we can work on lengthening attention span. Without the necessity of holding still at a desk, we can address learning through music experiences. Since music experiences are tailored to the individual, we can develop a learning environment that is exactly what is needed.

Mental Health

Music can be used for processing emotions, trauma, and grief. Singing, playing instruments, and listening to music can also help with managing mental health symptoms offering some relief.

Neurological Disorders

Music follows specific neurologic pathways. Many times, when neurologic function is impaired in some way, music experiences can help retrain the brain to complete specific speech and motor tasks.

Physical Disabilities

Many times, physical disabilities and sensory loss provide barriers for participation in various opportunities. Music encompasses so many different senses, that we can find a way for anyone to participate. Instruments can be modified for physical needs, and experiences can be tailored to those who have a specific sensory loss.

And more!

As music therapy is tailored to the individual, there are a variety of needs that can be met through music experiences. The above information is not intended to be an exhaustive list of how music therapy can help. Our music therapists always consider the needs of the individual and how we can help meet those needs.
